11th Annual William S. Schweers Sr High School Essay Contest presented by the Academy of Trial Lawyers of Allegheny County. This essay contest is open to all senior, junior and sophomore high school students in Allegheny County. This year's topic: Should the City and County be permitted to levy taxes or fees upon certain not-for-profit entities such as local universities and health care facilities? AFS Global Leaders Scholarship Program:
AFS is a non-profit, non-government organization dedicated to intercultural understanding and educational exchange. AFS awards over $3 million in scholarships each year. PA School for Global Entrepreneurship:
Information about the PA School for Global Entrepreneurship at Lehigh University is available in the guidance office. This program is the same in content, length and selectivity as the former Governor's School program. Deadline for applications in the guidance office is February 1, 2010.
PSECU 2010 Scholarship Program
Students who are members or who plan on becoming members of PSECU will have the opportunity to apply for one of six $6,000 scholarships. The student must be a member by Thursday, December 24, 2009. Western Pennsylvania Golf Association
WPGA Scholarship Fund provides scholarships to Member Club employees who have worked a minimum of two seasons. Applications are available in the Guidance Office.

Chick Evans Caddie Scholarship The Chick Evans Scholarship is a one-year, full tuition and housing scholarship. Most Evans Scholars attend one of the 14 universities where the Evans Scholars Foundation owns and operates a Scholarship House.

The Continental Building Systems Charities Scholarship for 2009

Kids' Chance of Pennsylvania The Pennsylvania School Boards Association is pleased to announce support of the Kids' Chance of Pennsylvania scholarship grants for 2009. These scholarship grants are available to children of Pennsylvania workers who have been killed or seriously injured in a work-related accident, resulting in financial need. The Marilyn Smith Scholarship provides a scholarship for a female senior who has played golf in high school and is planning to play golf at an accredited college or university in the US.

The Dinah Shore Scholarship provides a scholarship for a female who has played golf during high school and is pursuing a college education in the US, but will not be playing competitive collegiate golf.

The Phyllis G. Meekins Scholarship provides a need-based scholarship for a high school senior from recognized minority background who plans on playing competitive golf at an accredited college in the US.

Pittsburgh Passion & MyWay Mobile Storage Scholarship
The Pittsburgh Passion & MyWay Mobile Storage are offering a scholarship to support women student athletes. Harry Quinn-Ralph Schorr Memorial Scholarship The Greater Pittsburgh Football Officials Association has announced the Harry Quinn-Ralph Schorr Memorial Scholarship. The individual need not be a football player, however, they must be involved in football in some way. This would include a team manager, trainer, a cheerleader, a band member, or some other similar activity. Additional criteria and applications are available in the Guidance Office.

Pennsylvania House of Representatives 2010-2011 Scholarship Program The Pennsylvania House of Representatives has announced it's 2010-2011 scholarship program. Recipients will receive one semester of tuition at a State System of High Education for four years. Applicants will be reviewed based on academic record, extra-curricular activities, demonstrated leadership and commitment to community. Students are required to write an essay and have a minimum GPA of 3.0. Applications are available in the Guidance Office or online at www.pahousescholarship.com

The Alumni Association of the University of Pittsburgh is offering an opportunity to senior Eagle Scouts who plan on attending the university this fall. Robert "Cubby" Bearer Memorial Scholarship recognizes an Eagle Scout from Western Pennsylvania who has demonstrated high character, leadership, ability and financial need. Society For The Education Of Physicians And Patients This memorial merit scholarship is open to seniors attending a school located in Allegheny County and who plan on attending an accredited US four year college or university. National Italian American Sports Hall of Fame This scholarship is available to qualifying student athletes. Edgar Snyder & Associates 4th Annual "Words to be Heard" Essay Contest High school seniors are required to write a 1,000 word proposal for a school based program that would effectively teach pre-teens and teenagers about alcohol-related consequences. Veterans of Foreign Wars & Ladies Auxiliary - Voice of Democracy Scholarship: Students compete by writing and recording a broadcast script on an annual patriotic theme. Open to students in 9-12 grades. Applications and additional criteria are available in the Guidance Office.

Pennsylvania American Legion Scholarships
2010 High School Oratorical Contest: This contest consists of two parts. An 8-10 minute, memorized oration to be given on some phase of the US Constitution. Also, a 3-5 minute extemporary oration on one of the assigned topics. Additional criteria and applications are available through Mrs Whalen in the Guidance Office.

2010 Gene Kelly Scholarships: Pittsburgh CLO is offering senior high school students who participate in the high school musical an opportunity to receive various theater and musical theatre scholarships.

US Junior Chamber International Senate Foundation Scholarship - The United States Junior Chamber International Senate Foundation has announced its annual scholarship program. $1,000 grants will be awarded to graduating seniors. Deadline: TBA Please stop by the guidance office for information.
PenSPRA Scholarships The Pennsylvania School Public Relations Association wants to encourage and promote the field of public relations to high school students through an educational scholarship for those interested in studying the field or related subjects (i.e. journalism, English, public relations, advertising, graphic arts, etc.). The candidate should have maintained a 3.0 GPA, and have been accepted to or applied at a two or four-year college, vocational-technical school, or other institution of higher learning.
The award consists of six one-year scholarships worth $500 each. Scholarships will be awarded to two students from each of PenSPRA"s three regions (Eastern, Central and Western). We invite all interested candidates to complete and submit an application. Applications are available at www.penspra.org
